Gilwood Lodge Care Home, Blackpool

MBi Social Care

The redevelopment of the former care home saw Urban Green appointed to develop and deliver detailed landscape proposals to create interesting, usable, and pleasant outdoor spaces for residents and their visitors.

The design follows the aspirations and recommendations set within the ‘Stirling Standard’ for patients with dementia and includes a centre piece ‘sensory garden’ with a gently winding path up to a quiet seating area for residents.

Key design considerations included:

  • Key locations to form marker points to assist with memory recall and form points of reference
  • Circulation routes
  • Recognisable features as familiar landmarks
  • Planting and features considered to trigger all senses
  • Colours such as yellow are more visible

Happy Client

We think the scheme is stunning and we are really pleased that you stayed so close to our brief. We are excited to see the final product and we are putting the home forward for the environment and design awards later this year.

Paul TM Smith, Managing Director MBi Social Care
